Sermon Jazzers
     from Voicings Publications

Each day SearchGodsWord.org and Voicing Publications posts for our users a fresh Sermon Jazzer illustration handpicked for usage with the "Sunday Sermon".

Today's Sermon Jazzer deals with the subject of 'cross of christ'. Click here to preview today's "Sunday Sermon."

There was a woman whose husband loved her very much, and during her convalescence from a severe illness he carried her from room to room. On sunny days he would carry her onto the porch or out into the garden. He waited on her constantly. One day, the physician told him, "If you keep this up, she will never walk again. She likes being carried, and she will never even try to walk." The husband saw the point, so when he went home that night he watched as she walked tremblingly and stumblingly. He even let her fall and painfully pick herself up. It would have been so easy to rush to her side and keep her from falling. That is what we want God to do. We blame Him when we fall, and we blame Him for not rushing to our sides to pick us up and take away all the pain. No one can ever imagine what it cost God to refrain from intervention as His own beloved Son was put to death. But God's holding back was not weakness. The Cross of Christ became the power of God unto salvation. --Allen, C.L., "Joyful Living"

Each week two new illustrations are posted from the "Handbook of Pulpit Humor: 101 Humorous Sermon Illustrations.

Illustration #1 deals with the subject of 'motivation'.

A cartoon which appeared in "The New Yorker" magazine shows a group of hogs eagerly assembled for feeding as a farmer is filling their trough to the brim. One pig suspiciously asks the others in the group, "Have you ever wondered why he's being so good to us?"

Illustration #2 deals with the subject of 'work and workaholics'.

While most nine-to-fivers wish their working week was a little shorter and their weekends a little longer, there's at least one executive who probably never exclaimed, "Thank God it's Friday!" In fact, a plaque hangs over the desk of this "workaholic" which reads:

THANK GOD IT'S MONDAY!
